Meet Ms. Thompson, 1st Grade Teacher

Hello! My name is Ms. Thompson. This year, I am going to be your first year teacher! I am pretty excited because this year is my first-year teaching. We are going to do so many fun things this year, and of course we are going to learn a lot! I was born in Chicago, Illinois, but I was raised in Oakdale, Minnesota. I graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato with a B.S. in Elementary Education (K-6 Licensure). During my time at Minnesota State University, Mankato I participated in various organizations including, Black Student Union, Teachers of Tomorrow, African Student Association, and Black Motivated Women. When I am not at school, I love to spend time with my family and friends, read, watch documentaries, and play with my cats Simba and Timon! I can’t wait to get to know you this year. See you soon!

Meet Ms. Sélah, 1st Grade Teacher

Hello! I go by Ms. Sélah and I’m the Lead Teacher for the Primary Site, as well as one of the First Grade Teachers here at Friendship Academy of the Arts! This will be my third year teaching.

I went to Hamline University and obtained my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and English. I have a lot of background working with students in special education. I have learned a variety of different tools and techniques to differentiate learning, create accommodations that match student skillset, and support students academically or behaviorally.

I am patient and I push student academic and behavioral success by setting high expectations. I bring joy to learning through engaging with art in many forms in the classroom, being open and vulnerable with my students, and creating a space where it is okay to make a mistake/celebrate learning all day long.

It is my belief that through building classroom community and relationships students can really embrace education and learning in a different way, blossoming competent, creative and confident scholars.
